Key Discussions and Insights

Strategies for Successful Back-to-School Drives

Tahje Wallen shared that planning early is crucial to ensure the success of back-to-school initiatives. Starting as early as February allows for ample time to secure sponsorships and donations. Persistence plays a key role; following up on initial "no" responses can often turn them into "yes." Engaging community members, including students from grade 10 and above, in planning committees helps develop leadership skills and ensures a well-rounded approach.

The Importance of Extracurricular Activities

Extracurricular activities offer a wealth of benefits, including discipline, focus, and teamwork. They also aid in personal and professional development by allowing students to explore their interests, which can inform future career choices.

Involving Students in Community Efforts

Involving students in planning and executing community activities not only develops their leadership skills but also teaches accountability and the value of giving back. Marcelle Jackson shared that plans are in place to increase student involvement by educating them about the importance of community service.

Finding Passion and Balance in School Clubs

Students are encouraged to explore different clubs to find their passion, and it’s okay to be involved in multiple clubs as long as they align with personal interests. Effective time management is essential to balance academic work and extracurricular activities, ensuring that academic responsibilities are fulfilled first.

Future Goals and Initiatives

The Youth Education Association aims to establish a physical office within the next year to provide direct support to students. Their long-term goal includes reintroducing free CSEC and CAPE classes with a focus on improving results in key subjects like Math and English. The MJ Foundation plans to expand partnerships with overseas organisations to increase resources, ensuring the sustainability of their programmes.

Collaborating for Community Impact

For meaningful progress, collaboration among educators, students, and community members is essential. Forming committees, leveraging unique skills and resources, and maintaining open communication are key strategies for enhancing the impact on education within communities.
